Main types of Coffee Beans

There are four main types of coffee beans that we will discuss here:
Arabica (Arabica coffee), Robusta (Caniphora coffee), Liberica (Liberica coffee) and Excelsa (Liberica var. Dewevrei coffee). Let’s learn the differences that define different types of coffee.

Arabica
As mentioned earlier, Arabica is the most popular (and certainly the most traded) coffee in North America. This is because it actually has a milder, more subtle flavor, and the coffee itself tends to be less acidic. Arabica beans are grown in high altitude areas, especially areas with abundant rainfall. In fact, Brazil, known for its lush rainforests, is the world’s largest exporter of Arabica coffee. The tree itself is quite fragile, requiring proper pruning and constant attention to environmental factors. The arabica species are particularly susceptible to disease, so growing in large numbers is a challenge. This causes the price of this bean to increase significantly in the global market, but many coffee drinkers around the world are happy to pay the difference due to its sweeter, lighter taste. One point to note about the popular but sensitive bean is that its flavor can be slightly diminished when served cold or mixed with milk or cream. While that may be the case, to be fair, the difference probably won’t be as noticeable when you add flavor to the drink.

Robusta
When it comes to global production, Robusta beans are second on the list and most popular in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The name of this bean does justice, as it is known for its strong and often harsh flavor. Robusta coffee has extremely high caffeine content, making the plant much stronger than Arabica coffee. That’s because caffeine acts as a natural insect repellent, eliminating a major threat to the plant. The caniphora species is also particularly tolerant of the environment, so it can be grown in any altitude and climate. Due to their reputation for a burnt or rubbery taste, robusta is generally not a very popular coffee product unless very strong coffee is a cultural norm. However, because it is easier to grow and harvest than Arabica coffee, many farmers tend to earn higher profits when selling Robusta. So where will he go?
